HBO Lands Live Capture of ‘Oh, Mary!’ Starring Cole Escola

The Hollywood Reporter · 4 hours ago

HBO has acquired a live capture of "Oh, Mary!", the hit comedy play created by and starring Cole Escola, which will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max. The special was filmed during a performance at London's Trafalgar Theatre on 28 July 2026, bringing the acclaimed stage production to a wider television audience. The play, which satirically reimagines Mary Todd Lincoln as an aspiring cabaret singer with a fondness for drink, has become a major theatrical success since its 2024 debut.

The production, directed by Sam Pinkleton, premiered Off-Broadway in February 2024 before transferring to Broadway that July, where it continues to run with Meg Stalter currently in the lead role; Bowen Yang takes over from 15 September. Escola and Pinkleton both won Tony Awards for the show, and its London staging picked up an Olivier Award. The HBO cast includes Escola reprising Mary Todd Lincoln alongside Giles Terera, Bianca Leigh, Tony Macht and Michael Urie, with the special executive produced by Escola alongside teams from Irony Point, Mike & Carlee Productions and Alchemation.
