“He felt like a metal uncle, and it’s so sad that he got taken away at such a young age”: Orbit Culture pay tribute to late At The Gates singer Tomas Lindberg
Swedish death metal band Orbit Culture have paid tribute to Tomas Lindberg, the late frontman of At The Gates, describing him as a "metal uncle" figure who was warm and approachable. The remarks come four years after Orbit Culture toured Europe supporting At The Gates and fellow Gothenburg act In Flames, a run that turned out to be Lindberg's final full-length tour before illness struck.
Speaking exclusively to Metal Hammer, Orbit Culture singer/guitarist Niklas Karlsson recalled Lindberg fondly from that European tour. Although At The Gates played a handful of festival dates in 2023, Lindberg was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare cancer affecting the mouth and palate, in December 2023. He died in September 2025 at the age of 52, following complications during his recovery.
