Police in South Yorkshire deployed a helicopter to a village positioned between Sheffield and Rotherham after receiving reports of armed individuals shooting in a field. The incident at Dowcarr Lane in Harthill involved what was described as a group of men firing at pigeons, prompting officers to attend the scene. Upon arrival, police found no indication that any offences had been committed.

The helicopter dispatch came as part of a broader pattern of firearms-related reports in the region that day. Derbyshire Constabulary had separately responded to a report of loud bangs in Killamarsh, situated approximately 1.5 miles away, during the early morning hours. Similar to the Harthill incident, officers attending that location found no evidence of shooting activity, with no suspects identified in either case.
