Games Workshop has confirmed that horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan has joined its long-gestating Warhammer 40,000 screen adaptation, in the most substantial update yet on a project first agreed between Amazon and Games Workshop in December 2024. Henry Cavill remains attached to the venture, ending speculation that the prolonged lack of news signalled his departure from the project.

Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree revealed the update in the company's latest financial report, confirming Amazon has brought in both United Artists and Flanagan, who has already worked on initial outlines ahead of the project moving into scripting. Rountree also stated that Cavill and his production company, Vertigo, "remain involved as they have been for some time." It is not yet clear whether Flanagan's involvement is for a film or television series, or whether it is the specific project Cavill will star in, though the director's horror pedigree, including The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep, is seen as a strong fit for the grim tone of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
