Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40K universe at Prime Video gets major update

Polygon · 3 hours ago

Games Workshop's latest financial report has confirmed that horror director Mike Flanagan has been brought onto the long-gestating Warhammer 40,000 live-action adaptation at Amazon Prime Video, alongside star Henry Cavill. CEO Kevin Rountree revealed that Flanagan, working with United Artists, has completed initial outlines and is moving on to writing the script, marking tangible progress on a project that fans have been anxiously awaiting given the high stakes of adapting the beloved "grimdark" tabletop universe for the screen.

Flanagan, known for The Haunting of Hill House and adaptations of Stephen King novels, brings horror pedigree to the project, while Cavill, a devoted fan of the franchise, remains attached. However, Games Workshop cautioned that no timeline has been set and that "these adaptations will take years to bring successfully to market," though the plural wording hints at further projects beyond this one. The report also revealed additional Warhammer content in the works: a Secret Level season two episode set in the Age of Sigmar universe, and a full animated Warhammer 40,000 series called Deathwatch, written by John Orloff and animated by Blur, for release on Amazon.
