The denial came after music executive Ray Daniels asserted on his podcast that Jay-Z's follow-up to 2017's "4:44" was "completely done", though he suggested it would only be released if the rapper secured a label partner. The episode matters because it deflates fresh speculation among fans who had grown hopeful following Jay-Z's return to touring this year.

Daniels, who has held senior roles at Warner, Universal, Interscope and Epic despite never working for Roc-A-Fella, claimed his information came from an unnamed source. Jay-Z has been highly visible in 2026, performing at Roots Picnic in May and three consecutive nights at Yankee Stadium in July, with further shows marking the 30th anniversary of "Reasonable Doubt" scheduled in London, Paris and Los Angeles through October.
