British pair Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid began their pursuit of a sixth US Open wheelchair doubles title with a comfortable 6-3 6-1 win over Frenchman Stephane Houdet and China's Zhenxu Ji in New York. The top seeds progress to the semi-finals, where they will meet 2025 champions Tokito Oda of Japan and Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez, in what marks another step in one of wheelchair tennis's most dominant partnerships.

Hewett, 28, and Reid, 34, have amassed 25 Grand Slam doubles titles together and will also begin their singles campaigns on Wednesday. Elsewhere, Britain's Andy Lapthorne and South African partner Leon Els won their quad wheelchair doubles opener 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 against Americans David Wagner and Andrew Bogdanov, while fellow Britons Greg Slade and Australian Heath Davidson suffered a heavy 6-0 6-0 defeat to top seeds Niels Vink and Guy Sasson, who have won every Grand Slam this year and the last six majors overall.
