British duo Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid have both reached the men's wheelchair singles quarter-finals at the US Open after winning their last-16 matches on Wednesday. It is a strong showing for the pair, who are among the leading names in wheelchair tennis and are also chasing a sixth US Open doubles title together as a partnership.

Hewett, the number two seed and a four-time singles champion in New York, cruised past Spain's Daniel Caverzaschi 6-0 6-2 and will next face American Casey Ratzlaff. Reid needed two hours and 13 minutes to beat Frenchman Stephane Houdet 6-3 5-7 6-2, and now faces a tougher test against defending champion and top seed Tokito Oda of Japan, winner of the last six Grand Slam singles titles. Elsewhere, Britain's Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade both lost in the quad singles first round, though Lapthorne remains alive in the quad doubles semi-finals alongside partner Leon Els.
