A high-profile Melbourne man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has gone on trial at Melbourne County Court accused of raping a woman at his home after the pair drank wine and used cocaine together. He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, and his defence contends that the complainant fabricated the entire incident. The case is notable because of the man's prominence in Melbourne social circles and the sharply opposed accounts being put before the jury.

The court heard that the accused invited the woman to his home on 23 March 2023, where they allegedly consumed alcohol and cocaine before going out to watch football at a friend's house. The complainant says she made clear she was not sexually interested in the man and never would be, and believed he seemed to accept her boundaries. After returning to his home at about 9.30pm and using more cocaine, the man allegedly pulled her onto his bed as she became upset and cried, with the prosecution stating he told her 'I can't stop' while she repeatedly said 'I don't want this'. The court was told she punched the accused in the face after the alleged rape and sent detailed notes to her mother before dawn.
