Florida fisherman survives severe shark attack near Boca Grande Key

Daily Mail · 2 hours ago

A Florida fisherman, David Daniel, 43, suffered a severe shark bite that tore away part of his leg after he stepped off a boat to explore a sandbar near Boca Grande Key. He lost roughly six litres of blood in the attack, but two off-duty nurses who happened to be nearby heard his screams, rushed to help and administered first aid that likely saved his life while awaiting further assistance.

Daniel was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, where he underwent two emergency surgeries; doctors managed to save his foot, though he now faces six to eight weeks unable to walk and an extended course of physical therapy. As he lacks health insurance, friends have set up a GoFundMe, which has raised around $10,000 (£7,900) so far, to help cover his medical bills, rehabilitation and living costs while he recovers.
