Horror as eight injured in 16-vehicle crash in fog on major UK road
Eight people were injured in a 16-vehicle crash on the westbound A303 near Andover, Hampshire, during thick fog on Saturday evening. The road’s closure and clean-up disrupted travel, highlighting the risks posed by very poor visibility.
Emergency services were called at about 8.20pm, and both westbound lanes were closed while crews dealt with a fuel spill and carried out inspections and any necessary repairs. National Highways expected the road to clear between 5.15pm and 5.30pm on Sunday. The crash happened as a Met Office fog warning covered parts of England, with visibility potentially falling to 50 metres or less; separately, a crash involving more than 30 vehicles on the M20 in Kent seriously injured two people.
In short
- Eight people were injured in a 16-vehicle crash on the A303.
- Thick fog and a fuel spill led to a westbound closure.
