Horror as man, 30, rapes another man after luring him to secluded wood

Saleh Mahmud, 30, has been jailed for 12 years after raping a man he lured to a secluded wood in Failsworth and threatening to kill him. The case also involved a separate robbery and assault, and police said evidence from both victims helped identify him.

Mahmud met the first man in Manchester on 23 December and took him to the wood the following day, where he ignored the man’s refusal of sex, then stole his bank cards and phone. DNA evidence linked Mahmud to the rape; a search of his home found five phones, £3,000, white powder and three driving licences belonging to others. He was convicted of two counts of rape and admitted robbery, assault, fraud, strangulation and possessing criminal property.
