England gymnast Gabriel Langton suffered a serious-looking fall from the horizontal bar during the men’s team final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, overshadowing England’s silver medal. The 19-year-old required extensive treatment before being taken to hospital, highlighting the risks involved in elite gymnastics.

Langton fell head first from the bar, around three metres above the floor, during the final rotation after competing on floor, rings and parallel bars. He was conscious and moving his limbs before leaving on a stretcher with his head and neck supported; officials later said he was speaking with doctors. Canada won its first men’s team gold in 20 years, ahead of England, while Australia took bronze.
