Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth film in James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s paranormal horror franchise, is due to arrive in cinemas in three weeks. It matters because it continues a series that has run for 15 years and returns to the Further, the demonic purgatory realm central to the earlier films.

The 106-minute film follows Gemma, a single mother played by Amelia Eve, who discovers she can enter the Further and inadvertently bring its inhabitants into the real world, threatening her daughter Maya. Lin Shaye returns as psychic Elise Rainier, apparently in spirit form, and the film is described as a direct sequel to 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door; it is scheduled for release on 21 August.
