James Wehr, the 27-year-old founder of the popular South OC Cars and Coffee car show, was killed alongside another man early on Saturday when their McLaren 720S crashed and burst into flames in Irvine, California. The incident is particularly striking because Wehr had posted footage to Instagram of a police car pulled up behind the same McLaren in Newport Beach only about an hour before the fatal crash, though it remains unclear why the vehicle had been stopped.

Police said the car had been halted at traffic lights before accelerating rapidly, causing the driver to lose control, clip a kerb and slam into a tree at around 12.20am, splitting the vehicle in two and setting it alight; both occupants died at the scene. Investigators have not yet clarified whether other vehicles were involved. Wehr's family, including his mother, wife and sister, have since paid emotional tributes to him on social media, describing him as a loving and vibrant man who will be deeply missed.
