Barnsley councillors have approved outline plans for up to 126 homes on green space north of Keresforth Road in Dodworth, after a divided vote. The land is allocated for housing in the council’s Local Plan, but opponents raised concerns about wildlife, recreation, road safety, flooding, and noise and pollution from the nearby M1.

Keepmoat Homes says it has reduced its proposal from 215 homes and argues the scheme would help meet housing needs, but it proposes no affordable homes on the site, saying it cannot provide them alongside other usual contributions. The council’s policy calls for 30% affordable housing in Dodworth. Approval is subject to conditions and a £900,000 legal agreement, including £736,000 for school places, £89,750 for biodiversity, £69,300 for public transport and £4,950 towards affordable housing elsewhere.
