Manchester City’s long-running disciplinary case has reportedly reached guilty findings on almost all of more than 100 Premier League charges, following an investigation that began in 2018. The case is unprecedented in English football because the alleged financial breaches coincided with the club winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League, raising questions over whether trophies or other sanctions could follow.

The charges cover inaccurate financial reporting from 2009-10 to 2017-18, incomplete payment details involving Roberto Mancini and players, breaches of Uefa and Premier League financial rules, and failure to co-operate with the investigation. The saga began after leaked documents appeared to suggest that Abu Dhabi’s ownership group funded sponsorship payments presented as commercial revenue; City has consistently denied wrongdoing. The independent commission’s decision emerged almost two years after hearings, but the full judgment, possible appeal and penalties have not yet been settled.
