Bryan Adams’s 1984 album Reckless turned him from a relatively little-known Canadian rock musician into a major pop star. Its sustained run of successful singles and radio-friendly rock sound made it one of the defining blockbuster albums of the 1980s, establishing Adams alongside the era’s biggest commercial artists.

Before Reckless, Adams had struggled after two poorly performing albums, although 1983’s Cuts Like A Knife had begun to build his American audience. He wrote most of Reckless with Jim Vallance, included the Tina Turner duet “It’s Only Love”, and added rock tracks such as “One Night Love Affair” late in production; the album produced five hits, with “Heaven” becoming his first number one and “Summer of ’69” becoming a signature song.
