A new Cosmos update for No Man's Sky has introduced "Comet Dust" as a fresh resource tied to a range of new in-game recipes, including customisation options for the newly added Space Station feature. Players need a reliable method to gather significant quantities of it, as many of the station's external design modules require the material to unlock.

To collect Comet Dust, players should open their ship's Star System map and locate a "Planetoid Debris" point of interest, which contains comets rather than ice when it isn't an Ice Belt. Rather than shooting comets with ship weapons, which only yields Salvage, players must exit their ship, find smaller comets with orange outgrowths, and break them apart using their mining tool; the resource can also be found at Ice Fields, which additionally offer Stellar Geodes for producing Stellar Ice. The exact quantity needed across all recipes remains unclear until more are unlocked, but regularly mining asteroid belts is recommended.
