Apple's macOS 27 update introduces an automatic tab organisation feature for Safari, using on-device Apple Intelligence to group open tabs by topic without any manual input from the user. The feature, aimed at people who accumulate large numbers of open tabs, is not switched on by default, so browsing will look unchanged after installing the update unless it is manually enabled in Safari's settings.

To turn it on, users open Safari settings, go to the Tabs menu, select Organise Tabs and choose "Automatically Create Topics." Safari will then sort tabs into groups, such as bundling several game-related pages under "Video Games," with all processing done on-device rather than sent to Apple's servers. Those wanting more control can instead choose "Show Related Tabs," which suggests groupings without applying them automatically. macOS 27 also adds a "Notify Me" feature to alert users to changes on webpages and AI-generated custom browser extensions, and remains in beta ahead of a general release expected this autumn.
