Apple's forthcoming iOS 27 update will let iPhone users split restaurant bills using Visual Intelligence, the camera-based tool that can read an itemised receipt and automatically send Apple Cash requests to fellow diners. Rather than dividing a bill evenly, the feature identifies individual items so each person can be charged for what they actually ordered, making the process more accurate and convenient for group meals. The same Visual Intelligence tool will also be able to scan compatible physical passes, such as boarding cards, loyalty cards and tickets, and add them directly to Apple Wallet.

To use the bill-splitting feature, users need a compatible iPhone running iOS 27, Apple Cash set up in Wallet, a readable itemised receipt and contacts able to send and receive Apple Cash payments. Visual Intelligence can be added as a shortcut in Control Centre for quick access, and users can review items, taxes, tips and discounts before requests are sent. For now, both the bill-splitting and pass-scanning tools are only available in the iOS 27 Public or Developer Beta, with wider release expected later this autumn; Apple still recommends official "Add to Wallet" links from issuers for the most reliable results with passes.
