Netflix to premiere Grand Theft Auto VI trailer before YouTube

Engadget · 2 hours ago

Netflix will exclusively host an extended-look trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI for six hours on Thursday 27 August, before it becomes freely available on Rockstar Games’ YouTube channel. The arrangement is notable because it lets Netflix attach itself to one of gaming’s most anticipated releases, despite the company having recently reduced much of its own game-development activity.

The trailer will debut on Netflix at 3pm ET and arrive on YouTube at 9pm ET; Netflix subscriptions cost $9–$27 a month, while YouTube viewing will be free. It comes amid leaked GTA VI footage that Rockstar has sought to remove, and ahead of the game’s planned 19 November release, starting at $80. Netflix’s reported payment is undisclosed, and the article portrays the short exclusivity window as a streaming-industry marketing move rather than renewed investment in games.

  • Netflix gets six-hour GTA VI trailer exclusivity.
  • Rockstar will publish it free on YouTube afterwards.
  • GTA VI is due on 19 November.
