Comedian Jeff Arcuri has spoken about how his wife Katie Thurston's breast cancer diagnosis shaped his debut Netflix stand-up special, recorded in late 2025 during one of the most turbulent years of his life. In an interview on Deadline's Comedy Means Business podcast, Arcuri described how a planned year of extensive travel with Thurston was upended when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer while the couple were in Hawaii, forcing them to reorganise their lives around her treatment.

The couple relocated to New York, moved their wedding forward following a temporary misdiagnosis that would have required immediate chemotherapy, and married in an empty apartment with only their parents present and Arcuri's agent officiating. Arcuri also spent long stretches apart from Thurston to honour pre-booked international tour dates, while the pair navigated IVF alongside her ongoing treatment; Thurston, known for The Bachelorette, is now reportedly "doing so great" despite being diagnosed as Stage 4. Arcuri's resulting special, recorded across five sold-out shows at Phoenix's Celebrity Theatre, has since reached Netflix's Top 10 English TV chart with 1.3 million views in its first week.
