US ambassador Mike Huckabee condemned a siege of Palestinian homes in Qusra, in the occupied West Bank, describing the actions of Israeli settlers as a “horrific act of terror”. Residents said settlers had blocked access to several homes, set up tents nearby and disrupted water and electricity supplies. Israel’s military called the siege illegal, declared the area a closed military zone and said it had dismantled two illegal outposts and detained one Israeli. The incident drew particular US attention because one of the homes is owned by a Palestinian American living in Ohio. It came amid wider reported settler violence in Qusra, where the UN humanitarian office had recorded more such attacks than in any other West Bank community during 2026.

In Darwin, meanwhile, Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim made cricket history during the second day of the first Test against Australia. The 25-year-old scored 101 from 188 balls, becoming the first Bangladesh player to make a Test century in Australia and registering his maiden hundred in only his second Test. His innings, which included eight fours and a six, helped Bangladesh finish the day on 351 for six, 153 runs ahead after Australia had been dismissed for 198. The two developments were unrelated but both formed prominent international news on 14 August.

  • Huckabee called the Qusra settlers’ siege of Palestinian homes an act of terror.
  • Israel’s military said it had intervened, but residents reported continuing restrictions and disruption.
  • Tanzid Hasan Tamim became the first Bangladeshi to score a Test century in Australia.
