Hull agree deal with Frankfurt for winger Bahoya

BBC Sport ·

Hull City have agreed a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya, with the 21-year-old set to undergo a medical in East Yorkshire before Tuesday's transfer deadline. The France Under-21 international would become the Tigers' 13th signing of the summer as the club continues to strengthen Sergej Jakirovic's squad following their promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Bahoya, who joined Frankfurt from Angers in 2024, has scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 78 appearances, featuring in both the Champions League and Europa League. Primarily a left winger capable of playing across the front line, he holds the Bundesliga speed record after being clocked at 23.09mph against Bochum in 2025, and has previously attracted interest from several Premier League clubs. Hull have made a strong start to their top-flight return, beating Manchester United and Coventry City in their opening two league matches.

  • France U21 star holds Bundesliga's official speed record
  • Would be Hull's 13th summer signing before Tuesday's deadline

Both sides, in good faith

The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.

The case for

Signing Bahoya could add pace, versatility and European experience to a Hull side seeking to establish itself after promotion. His record of goals and assists suggests he may strengthen the attack, while a 21-year-old with international and top-flight exposure could also develop into a valuable long-term asset.

The case against

The reported deal carries uncertainty: Bahoya’s record of 15 goal contributions in 78 appearances does not guarantee an immediate impact in the Premier League, and adapting to a new club and league can take time. With Hull already making 13 summer signings, the move could also add to the challenge of building cohesion and may prove an expensive use of resources if he does not fit the team’s needs.
