Hundreds of people attended a solar eclipse watch party organised by 14-year-old astronomer Aston Smith on his housing estate in Overstone, Northamptonshire. The event brought neighbours together to observe the partial eclipse safely, while raising money for UK Astronomy and encouraging children’s interest in science.

Aston provided two telescopes, handmade viewers and 400 pairs of eclipse glasses, and led experiments measuring changes in light and temperature. He estimated that 93.5% of the Sun was covered at his location; attendees queued to look through the telescopes and photograph the event. Aston, interested in stargazing since age two and hoping to work for SpaceX, raised more than £400.
