Around 250 supporters protest arrest of anti-migrant activist in Basingstoke
Around 250 supporters of anti-migrant activist Daniel “Danny Tommo” Thomas gathered outside a police investigation centre in Basingstoke after his arrest. The protesters chanted for his release, blocked the road intermittently and were monitored by police, including officers using a drone, as well as making a brief prayer and directing laser pens at the station.
Thomas was arrested after footage appeared to show him slashing a migrant dinghy in the English Channel while a French rescuer was aboard. He is being held on suspicion of offences including criminal damage, endangering life and conduct endangering ships, while figures including Tommy Robinson encouraged supporters to attend the protest.
