Hundreds of thousands join Amsterdam’s ‘Red Line’ protest against Israel
More than 200,000 people marched in Amsterdam on Sunday, according to Amnesty International’s Dutch branch, one of the organisers. The “Red Line” protest called on the Dutch government to tighten trade restrictions on Israel and stop arms sales, amid continued attacks in Gaza.
Many marchers wore red and chanted “Free, free Palestine”. The article says at least 74,000 Palestinians, including 21,000 children, have been killed since October 2023, and that attacks have continued almost daily despite a ceasefire taking effect on 10 October last year. The Dutch government has banned imports from Israeli settlements, while Prime Minister Rob Jetten says it is increasing political and diplomatic pressure on Israel.
