Emma Finucane won her third gold medal in three nights at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, becoming the first Welsh woman to achieve that total at a single Games. Her victory in the debut 1,000m time trial strengthens Wales’ impressive track-cycling campaign and leaves her one win away from becoming the most successful Welsh woman in Commonwealth Games history.

The 23-year-old from Carmarthen recorded 1 minute 5.285 seconds, beating England’s Sophie Capewell and New Zealand Olympic champion Ellesse Andrews despite saying she had scarcely competed in the event before. Wales won four cycling medals on the day, including Anna Morris’s second gold and Jess Roberts’s points-race silver, taking their cycling total to 10 medals: five golds, three silvers and two bronzes.
