Shinedown bassist Eric Bass has withdrawn from the band's North American tour, which begins this weekend, in order to recover from what he described as a "serious mental health crash." The 51-year-old musician posted a video on social media telling fans he was stepping away from live performing for a period while he receives treatment, saying he could not manage the situation alone and needed help.

Bass explained that he had suffered the crash a few weeks ago and did not feel it was wise to go on tour in his current state. He said he is undergoing an "electrical stimulation protocol that helps with depression." The tour opens tonight (Saturday, 11 July) in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, with Josh Sturm and Zack Mack covering bass duties until Bass is well enough to return.
