“I didn’t need the group after losing my boy. When things go left of centre, who wants to sit backstage for hours with people you’ve been stuck with since 1968?” Robert Plant says that the death of his son changed his relationship with Led Zeppelin
Robert Plant says the death of his five-year-old son Karac in 1977 changed how he felt about Led Zeppelin. After the loss, he wanted to be with his family and no longer felt he needed the band, describing the long hours spent waiting backstage with his bandmates as difficult.
Karac died on 26 July 1977 from an acute gastrointestinal infection while Led Zeppelin were touring the US; the remaining seven dates were cancelled. The band never toured America again, though it released two more albums before breaking up in 1980 after drummer John Bonham died.
