‘I Don’t Think We’re Seeing It Here’: GTA 6 Launch Trailer Not Using PS5’s New QSSR Upscaler
Digital Foundry’s Rich Leadbetter says there is no evidence that GTA 6’s launch trailer uses QSSR, Sony’s new upscaling technology for the standard PS5. The assessment matters because some had speculated the feature might be introduced in time for the game, which Rockstar says will play best on PS5.
Leadbetter suggests QSSR may offer limited benefit if GTA 6 renders at 1440p and already scales adequately to 4K, while adding processing cost. In Marvel’s Wolverine, he observed that an upscale to 4K took about 4 milliseconds; against a 33-millisecond rendering budget, that is more than 10 per cent. The trailer may use older footage, so the final game, due on 19 November, could still use the technology.
- Digital Foundry sees no sign of QSSR in the GTA 6 trailer.
- QSSR could take over 10% of the rendering budget.
- The final game may still use the technology.
