Blues rock singer Beth Hart has spoken about how she developed a love of progressive rock, tracing it back to childhood and citing Primus bassist Les Claypool as her prog hero. In a 2016 interview with Prog magazine, Hart explained that her musical tastes were shaped early by her mother's love of jazz and blues, before neighbourhood friends introduced her to heavier acts, eventually leading her towards Rush and, later, Claypool's work.

Hart recalled that she fell for Rush's album Moving Pictures as a nine or ten-year-old, a record she says her husband and road manager Scott Guetzkow and her guitarist Jon Nichols still tease her about, joking it is the "worst" album of Rush's career. She credited bassist Geddy Lee's playing on the record as the element that hooked her, sparking a broader fascination with bass playing that ultimately led her to discover and admire Claypool's inventive style in Primus.
