‘I had so many medals under the bed’ – Green on Chelsea success
Paul Green says he only fully appreciated Chelsea Women’s success after leaving the club, where he spent 13 years as head of women’s football. In partnership with manager Emma Hayes, he helped build a side that won 19 major trophies, and says he is proud to have left Chelsea in a stronger position.
Chelsea won six consecutive Women’s Super League titles during Green’s time, with the most recent secured under Sonia Bompastor in 2025, and reached the Champions League final in 2021. After leaving in February, Green spent seven months away from football before becoming chief football officer at Bay FC in September; the club are third bottom of the National Women’s Soccer League with three matches left in the 2026 season, and he plans to strengthen their squad.
