‘I Just Can’t Believe My Luck’ — Dark Souls Superfan Peter Serafinowicz Reveals How He Landed a Role in the Upcoming Elden Ring Movie
Actor Peter Serafinowicz has revealed how his long-standing love of FromSoftware's games led to a role in Alex Garland's forthcoming live-action Elden Ring film. Speaking in an interview with comedian Russell Howard, the actor — known for voicing Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace and roles in Shaun of the Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy and John Wick: Chapter 2 — explained that a chance meeting in an audition reception area with Garland, a fellow Dark Souls devotee, sparked a friendship that eventually landed him a part in the movie.
Serafinowicz recounted that he "bullied" his way into voice work on Dark Souls 2, playing the character Mild-Mannered Pate and, more notably, providing the male character's death and exertion noises, which FromSoftware has retained in subsequent titles including Elden Ring. Garland's adaptation of the 30-million-selling game is set for release on 3 March 2028 and is reportedly A24's most ambitious project to date, with a budget "well over $100 million". The cast is headlined by Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw and Nick Offerman, alongside Kit Connor, Tom Burke, Jonathan Pryce and others.
