Jim Bonacci has brought his classic physics-based Flash game Happy Wheels to Steam, 16 years after its original release. The launch matters because the game unexpectedly attracted 750,000 wishlists, showing the enduring strength of nostalgia for browser games and reconnecting a once-isolated online audience with Steam.

Bonacci had reportedly expected only about 5,000 wishlists, making the eventual total roughly 150 times higher. The Steam version launched on 21 September for $4.99, removes advertising and retains the game’s user-created content, including more than five million community levels and its level editor.
