‘I Swear’ Star Robert Aramayo on the BAFTA N-Word Incident That Overshadowed the Movie and the ‘X-Men’ Wolverine Pitch He Keeps Hearing
Robert Aramayo says the racial slur involuntarily shouted by John Davidson during the BAFTA ceremony overshadowed the film “I Swear” for weeks. Aramayo, who plays Davidson, wants audiences to see it as a story about a person and his life, rather than solely about Tourette’s.
The film portrays Davidson, a Scottish Tourette’s campaigner, and was made with support from Tourette Scotland and Tourette’s Action. Aramayo won both the BAFTA Rising Star Award and leading actor award on 22 February, a first for the ceremony; the film opened in the US on 24 April, making him eligible for this year’s Oscars.
In short
- Aramayo says the BAFTA incident overshadowed “I Swear”.
