ICA refutes report that Woodlands Checkpoint power outage resulted in Causeway, JB congestion
Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) rejected a report that a power outage at Woodlands Checkpoint caused congestion on the Causeway and in Johor Bahru on Wednesday. ICA said no outage occurred; the clarification matters because the traffic had several separate causes, including planned maintenance and lorry breakdowns.
Electrical work at the Old Woodlands Checkpoint ran from 10am to 2pm, temporarily stopping clearance of arriving lorries there while clearance continued at Woodlands Checkpoint. Two lorries broke down on the Malaysian side at about 4.30pm and 6.30pm, blocking one of three arrival lanes; they were removed at 9.50pm and 12.22am. At 10.15pm, ICA estimated travel times of 60 to 90 minutes from Johor Bahru to Singapore and 50 to 70 minutes in the other direction.
In short
- ICA said Woodlands Checkpoint had no power outage.
- Planned maintenance contributed to a build-up of cargo traffic.
- Two lorry breakdowns blocked a lane and extended queues into Malaysia.
