Tech reviewer Eric Song of IGN argues that, for buyers seeking a TV close to 100 inches, TCL's new 2026 QM8L SQD Mini-LED model is currently a better choice than OLED, largely due to strong discounts and a significant technology upgrade. This matters because OLED has traditionally been considered the benchmark for picture quality, but at very large screen sizes it becomes prohibitively expensive and, in some cases, technically inferior, making the QM8L a more practical high-end option.

The 98-inch QM8L is on sale for around $3,999.99 (down from $5,999.99) at retailers including Best Buy and Amazon, and features TCL's new "SQD" (Super Quantum Dot) panel technology, offering up to 6,000 nits of peak brightness, over 4,000 local dimming zones, a 144Hz refresh rate and four HDMI 2.1 ports. Song notes that TCL's Halo Control System also eliminates the "halo effect" common to LED LCD TVs, while the nearest OLED equivalent, LG's 97-inch G6, costs around $20,000, is dimmer, capped at 120Hz, and uses an inferior panel compared to smaller G6 models, making the TCL set the stronger option at this size.
