The IFPI has endorsed industry calls for clear labelling of music made with generative AI and has immediately applied new eligibility principles to several international charts it manages. The move matters because it aims to preserve recognition for human artists while allowing authorised AI-assisted music onto charts under defined conditions.

The principles require AI tools to be authorised, tracks to comply with copyright and personality rights, AI use to be disclosed, and songs to be primarily human-created without manipulation concerns. They now cover IFPI-managed charts across the Middle East and North Africa, South-East Asia, South Africa and Latin America, while the organisation will work with other chart operators including South Korea’s Circle Chart, France’s SNEP and Australia’s ARIA.
