A Haitian national who went viral after screaming anti-Trump and pro-Biden slogans during his arrest by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been deported back to Haiti. Wisteguens Jean Quely Charles, 25, was detained in Boston in January and, according to US authorities, had accumulated at least 17 criminal convictions, including assault on a public employee and drug offences. The case has been highlighted by the Trump administration as an example of its enforcement stance against illegal immigrants with criminal records.

Charles entered the United States legally in 2013 under Temporary Protected Status granted by the Obama administration, but this status was terminated in July 2022. He remained in the country illegally, and an immigration judge issued a final removal order in November 2025, with ICE carrying out his deportation on 10 September 2026. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin cited Charles's lengthy rap sheet, which included assault and battery, resisting arrest, drug trafficking and weapons offences, while reiterating the administration's pledge to find and remove illegal immigrants.
