In 1965, The Rolling Stones changed the world with ‘Satisfaction’. Neil Young thought their next single was “even better”
The Rolling Stones followed their 1965 hit ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ with ‘Get Off My Cloud’, another US and UK number one. Neil Young later praised the follow-up as “even better”, valuing its loose, rough-edged performance and the reckless energy he felt captured the band.
‘Satisfaction’ topped the US chart for four weeks, while its suggestive lyrics made some UK radio stations cautious about playing it. ‘Get Off My Cloud’ was recorded quickly, and Young admired how the imperfections remained in the final version. Though he acknowledged it might be a less accomplished song, he felt its spontaneity sounded unmistakably like the Rolling Stones.
In short
