In 2007, Colin Farrell begged a director not to cast him in a movie. He ended up winning a Golden Globe for it
Colin Farrell was so troubled by the poor reception of *Alexander* that he asked director Martin McDonagh not to cast him in *In Bruges*, despite admiring the script. McDonagh cast him anyway, and the film became a critical success that helped Farrell regain confidence and earned him a Golden Globe.
Farrell said he felt responsible for *Alexander*’s failure and took its criticism to heart, including a Golden Raspberry nomination for Worst Actor. After filming *Miami Vice*, he checked into rehab, saying he had lost confidence in his ability to change things himself. *In Bruges* began a three-film collaboration with McDonagh, later continuing with *Seven Psychopaths* and *The Banshees of Inisherin*, which brought Farrell an Oscar nomination.
