In fifth grade, Bill Hader watched an adult movie at a sleepover. It “completely changed” his life

Bill Hader has said that watching Martin Scorsese’s *Taxi Driver* at a fifth-grade sleepover changed his life and helped spark his interest in directing. The story connects that early experience with Hader’s later work on *Barry* and his plans to make a feature film.

Hader called *Taxi Driver* the best-directed and acted film of all time, and singled out Robert De Niro’s performance as a lesson in acting for the camera. The article notes that he may not have understood the film’s full portrayal of Travis Bickle as a child, but says Scorsese’s filmmaking made a lasting impression; Hader is now developing psychological horror film *They Know*.
