Rapsody says her fifth album, God Gotta Afro & Gold Hoops, challenges Westernised depictions of God and argues that Black people should recognise divinity within themselves. She presents the project as an effort to reclaim spiritual and cultural narratives, linking its message to Pan-Africanism, Afrofuturism and connections between Black Americans and Africa.

The 16-track album, released through We Each Other and Roc Nation on 21 August, was shaped by Rapsody’s 2025 visits to Ghana and Johannesburg, where she encountered predominantly Western-style gospel music. Long-time collaborator Denaun Porter helped develop its sound, which combines blues, jazz, traditional hip-hop, soul and funk; guests include Malice, George Clinton and Amanda Reifer. Rapsody said she may add several further songs in a possible deluxe edition.
