Mississippi man recovering after being crushed in rubbish lorry

Mississippi man Craig Hill was seriously injured after being accidentally lifted and compacted inside a rubbish lorry in Vicksburg on Wednesday. He survived and is recovering in hospital; the incident has also drawn attention to his homelessness and the support he will need as he recuperates.

Firefighters treated Hill at a Circle K before taking him to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. His sister, Summer Carlin, said he had surgery to place pins and plates in his pelvis and is expected to stay with their mother. A note with family details helped the hospital contact relatives, and Carlin has set up a fundraiser for his care and other needs.
