Inde Navarrette Sets Best Actress Oscar Campaign for ‘Obsession’ as Focus Features Mounts Full Awards Push (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 3 hours ago

Focus Features is preparing an extensive Oscars campaign built around Inde Navarrette, whose breakout performance in Curry Barker's horror hit "Obsession" will see her put forward for best actress. Variety reports the studio intends to submit the film across nearly every eligible category, a full-scale push typically reserved for titles studios believe can genuinely contend through to the Academy Awards ceremony. Barker himself will be campaigned as a triple threat for best director, original screenplay and film editing, echoing the same three categories Sean Baker won for "Anora".

"Obsession" has proved a substantial commercial success, taking over $505.6 million worldwide from a modest $750,000 budget. Focus is also mounting campaigns for other titles this season, including Andrew Scott's "Elsinore", the "Sense and Sensibility" remake starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Robert Eggers' "Werwulf". One unresolved question is whether "Obsession" will be entered as a drama or a comedy/musical at the Golden Globes, a strategic choice reminiscent of Jordan Peele's "Get Out", which competed as a comedy in 2017 before earning four Oscar nominations, including best picture, and winning best original screenplay.

  • Focus Features to run wide Oscars campaign for horror hit "Obsession"
  • Inde Navarrette to contend for best actress; Curry Barker for three categories
  • Film's Globes category (drama vs comedy) still undecided
