Indie LGBTQ Dramedy ‘Actual Nobodies’ Acquired by Scatena & Rosner Films, Sets Early 2027 Release (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 6 hours ago

Scatena & Rosner Films has acquired North American, Australian and New Zealand distribution rights to "Actual Nobodies," an LGBTQ indie dramedy written and directed by Alex Wyse, with a US release set for early 2027. The deal, struck at this year's Cannes Market, marks a notable step for the film as it moves from festival circulation towards a theatrical release, and represents Wyse's solo feature directorial debut following his GLAAD Award-nominated short "Summoning Sylvia."

The film stars Didi Conn as Joyce, a woman in her seventies who rents her spare room to Anthony, a young gay man played by Austin P. McKenzie, with the pair forming an unexpected bond. Germany's Media Luna New Films has picked up rights for all remaining territories, giving the film international reach beyond the North American deal. The supporting cast includes Greta Quispe, Paul Lieber, Will Chase, Jason Veasey, Olli Haaskivi and David T. Patterson, and both Wyse and the acquiring distributors described the project as an emotionally resonant, filmmaker-driven piece of independent cinema.
