Indie Shows Still Happening At Chicago Cemetery Accused Of Mishandling Human Remains

Stereogum · 2 hours ago

Chicago’s Bohemian National Cemetery is under investigation over allegations that some human remains awaiting cremation were not kept at the proper temperature after equipment failures. Despite an order preventing it from accepting further bodies while the inquiry continues, the site will still host planned indie music events, raising questions about the appropriateness of concerts during the investigation.

The cemetery, founded in 1877, has hosted Empty Bottle Presents’ Beyond The Gate series since 2013, with previous performers including Kim Gordon and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Upcoming shows include Cate Le Bon, Horsegirl and Kinship on 25 September, and Russian Circles and Pelican on 26 September; organisers say both remain scheduled. Harm’s Way will also headline an 25 August memorial concert for late guitarist Bo Lueders.
