A Townsville tattoo artist and social media influencer, Amelia Chelsea Aguilera, who styles herself online as the "Queen of the North", has been charged with rape and unlawful wounding. Her lawyer applied for bail on her behalf at Townsville Magistrates Court in Far North Queensland on Wednesday, and Magistrate Viviana Keegan granted bail on the condition that she does not contact the complainant. The case has drawn attention partly because of Aguilera's sizeable online following and her public statements as she handed herself in.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place in November and December 2023, according to the Townsville Bulletin, and Aguilera has not entered a plea to either charge. Her case is due to return to court on 12 August, though she is not required to appear. In videos posted to Instagram and Facebook to her more than 60,000 followers, she said police had found "a single valium pill and a taser", stated she was handing herself in, and insisted "I'm not going away", claiming she was being silenced; it is understood she initially faced drug and weapons charges. Days earlier, she had announced she was withdrawing from the local Miss Townsville pageant due to "unforeseen new circumstances", and her social media accounts have since gone offline.
